Primrose Community Farm is a CSA (meaning Community Supported Agriculture farm). Each season, members pay an annual fee to join our farm. This entitles them to a weekly (or bi-weekly, depending of membership type) box of fresh, locally produced, certified organic fruits and vegetables.
The CSA model is very important to us! Not only does it help us keep our family farm financially viable, it helps us do what we care about most: connecting our community to food that is produced in a sustainable manner.
Growing food sustainably means many things to us:
- It means producing food organically - without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers.
- It means growing food in a way that nurtures and sustains the soil. We build our soil; we don’t deplete it.
- It means building local economies and local relationships.
- It means providing ourselves and our employees safe, fun work environments and living wages.
How are we doing meeting this mission? In 2009, Primrose Community Farm became certified organic. Soil tests showed we have successfully improved the quality of our soil. With the help of 4 employees (and a baby) and 26 members who worked for food, we fed over 350 families through our Summer CSA and Winter CSA shares. We hosted a strawberry pick and corn boil for our CSA members, and a breakfast for Bike the Barns riders. We sold our vegetables at the Westside Community Market and also sold to various local restaurants. And guess what? We never drove over 15 miles to deliver our food anywhere! Local, organic, sustainable. It’s what we do.
Want to be a part of what we do? We have a Summer CSA and a Winter CSA. Join us!
